The Life Guide 363 tūkst. prenumeratorių The Vietnam War began in good faith, by good people with good intentions. But a combination of American overconfidence, Cold War tensions and imperialist tendencies the Americans had previously fought so hard against, made the war in Vietnam one of America’s darkest pages in its short but dense history. By the end of the war, more than 58,000 Americans would die, as too would 250,000 South Vietnamese soldiers. Over 1 million North Vietnamese soldiers and Viet Cong guerillas would also perish as well as over 2 million civilians’ from both the north and the south, and thousands more from Laos and Cambodia. The Vietnam War brought everything into question. The rationalization of destroying villages in order to save them. America’s morality in the face of My Lai. The meaning of free-fire zones, shooting anything that moved as soldiers placed a cheapness on the lives of civilians. The falsification of body counts to increase kill death ratios. The unimportance of battle as men charged up hills because their generals told them too and after losing one platoon or two platoons they marched away to leave the hill for the enemy. Pride allowed the most unimportant battles to be blown into extravaganzas because America couldn't lose, and she couldn't retreat and because it didn't matter how many lives were lost to prove that point.

Richard 77 prieš 1 metus (redaguota) @Alex Rhone they wanted a capitalist regime and the north wanted a communist regime which is why an election was meant to be held to decide but of course America and the french didn't allow the election causing the conflict. After the war was over and the communist regime won out what did they do? Nothing. Went about trying to fix the mess left after the war. Russia was under a communist regime and without them Germany would have won ww2 which by the way was only just over before France trued to invade Vietnam again. People are quick to forget what communist russia did to fight back 4 million German and Italian soldiers if that's what Vietnam would have voted for then big shit that's their decision its not for anybody else to decide or mess with American should have stayed the hell out of it, remember France also asked Britain to intervene and they said no so why didn't America they got roped into that shit because of the French, and the french as a matter of fact left America there alone and even went so far as to say that nobody would win that war and America should pull out these same french who begged for help of fighting in a country that wasnt theirs. There is even a quote from a b52 pilot who bombed the ho chi menh trail for years that he felt he was bombing the wrong side. The corruption in the south was rife. Also there was no north or south the french made sure that North South border divide was put there before the elections that were never allowed to happen.

Dương Trần Đại prieš 10 mėnesių As a Vietnamese, I am very frustrated watching this video. I explain why below and I hope you can reply to my comment properly. 1. 7:00 in that year, the rate of illiteracy in Vietnam is extremely high. Hence, people didn't really know or even care what is communism. 80 years fought against the French was enough for anyone in Vietnam. The only thing that my people want is independence and peace life. 2. I want to explain more detail about why people in the North moving to the South. It was propaganda. The South government, the American government and the Bishop set up everything. They propagated that God had gone to the South and people must follow him. That's why. 3. Bonus information: the North soldiers even attacked successfully the embassy. That's why the Tet Offensive is not considered a completely winning but it was a political triumph (which led to the Paris negotiation). 3. 22:56 Don't underestimate the war on the sky in late 1972 or Linebacker II. We have compared this battle to the "Dien Bien Phu battle". Almost 100 planes including B52 were crashed on Hanoi and Haiphong skyline. This number put Nixon back to the negotiation. 4. Civil War? No, it has never been a civil war. It always our war against the American and ALLIES. Yes, their allies. This phrase included some countries and VNCH. Yes, VNCH was created and manipulated by the Western. Comment if you want to discuss more abt this opinion. 5. 25:38 After the war. Yes, my country definitely faced an extreme recession. Many reasons listed like weak and conservative government. But don't forget what the world had done in my country. Consequences from the American war, trade embargoes, Polpot on the South, China on the North (cmt if you want to defend the fucking Polpot), the reactionary in America ... All reasons I listed contributed to the 20 years of difficulty. If anyone still curious about how my country doing now, Covid-19 has answered already. Ok, that's all. I don't want war, like my ancestors in the past. I just want to "retouch" your notions about my country, my war. It's true that some disagreements may occur due to different sides of the war. But I am open-minded and willing to receive comments as well as opinions about the war. Thanks
