TRACE is an award winning short film set in the viking age.
It tells the story of Baldr, an explorer who has seen distant civilizations at the world´s edge. From them he brings knowledge that can help his people make a better future. Now he must escape Gorm and his vicious clan, who seek to destroy all that can challenge their way of life.
The story carries themes like knowledge transfer, cultural heritage, and the vulnerability these have in turbulent times.
This movie is the first to exclusively use genuine viking language (Old Norse), and it is shot at historical viking sites in Norway.
The dialogue was created with the help of a professor in Old Norse and Scandinavian Languages at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. TRACE is an independent production with limited funding. It was made with lots of hard work, thorough research and a lifelong passion for viking history.

Finally not bulshit fancy impractical costumes and hair cut, and armor and weapons out of period and context. May be because this is done by people who live in the place where such events happened very often, and actually are playing their ancestors.

Ummm, honestly it wasn't great what so ever (except costums/dress, they were bang on I thought) but it wasn't bad, I did watch entire film. I will say it was probably more like the actual event and the costumes/dress etc was more appropriate for that time rather than what most creators try and portray like Vikings series with the horned head gear etc. Real Vikings did not wear horned scary head gear, they simply wore little pointed material hats. The film lacked intensity with the story but more so with the actors. However, I would watch again, thank u so much for the entertainment and hope u take criticism well and apply it to ur future films, u definitely have a bright future

I have a copple of things to point out: Too many swords and too little spears, it would have been nice to see mainly spears and axes as main weapons, and only a handful of swords, chain mail and helmets and only on the high status people. The plan you see in the parchment for longship building is strange, as in scandinavia the longship were build sins the bronze age and it was no deep secret brought in from other countries. The fighting needs to be less barbaric and more systematic, at some point they all fight like berserkers and die left and right, and that would not have happened, if a side is winning the other should rout and live to fight another day, unless there was no way out. The shieldwall crashing against shieldwall is just madness and looks good on camera but is not realistic at all. They should have fought in a line formation with lots of spears, and axes, and knives as last resort, moving together as a formation trying to "fold" the other formation. More bows, sling and stone throwing would also be nice to see, to enhance the importance of shields. Other than that it was a nice short story, the old norse language was a good touch even thought it didn't sound very natural and the costumes in general where better than most viking movies I have seen, not perfect but ok. Skål!

So well done and such attention to detail. As a retired professor of Theater, Film and History I am absolutely stunned by the level of production values. You have clearly done your homework. The feel is so right and so true. As a man with much Norwegian blood married to a Dane I am proud of your work. As a Latter-Day Saint (Mormon), I have an appreciation from an entirely different direction. We believe that the Scandinavian people are descendants of the Tribe of Ephraim who were carried out of Israel long ago by the Assyrians and who traveled north for many generations until they settled the Norse lands. In my own genealogy Odin, Thor, Baldr etc. are very real people who came to be worshiped by their descendants. There is so much more to know. Thanks for your excellent and, if I may be so bold, inspired work. I will watch for more!

Definitely a better representation of the Viking age than anything out there I can think of, not least due to the dialogue (which I was pleased to hear have an Old Icelandic accent!) or the clothing/armor. Amazingly done - a pity more haven't seen this!

Baldr and his family were watching you from Valhalla , guiding you to tell their story, making sure you'll transmit stories and wisdom from your ancient one...
Amazing film, great photography, artwork like yours should be shown to many as a legacy from the past !

An amazing movie.
The importance of the BOOK(means knowledge ) was as much sacred as it was with humans in other parts of the world in ancient times.
This movie cleared my vision about vikings. Living in the other part of the world i usually feel romantic about scandinevians. Thanks for making and uploading this movie.

Bra jobba. Veldig bra skuespill, god produksjon, bra manus men uttalelsen var kanskje ikke helt perfekt. Men dette var en veldig bra kortfilm. Det hadde vært veldig kult om dere kunne blitt sponset av et litt større firma, og kanskje lagd en serie ut av det her! 8/10

This film is exciting, it could be expanded into a mini series just like Italian television did with the Romulus and Remus series and the Germans with the Teutoburg Forrest battle story. Both series stayed true to the original languages and clothing with minor liberties taken for dramatic effect.
The sword fighting is the only thing that it's still lacking behind, considering that there are so many HEMA practioners who would have participated practically for free or at least some credits in the film.

Great movie I loved the cinematography the pacing, the language was beautiful, the story was amazing, I would love to see more of this type of historical film, however...the fighting choreography was just awful at times but I think that is just a matter of finding the right choreographer, the archery...was...upsetting and cringey, if Im being honest, but once again I think it's something that can be remedied easily, if it was up to me that Bjorn kid would have been fed to Gorm after that first scene, the acting was just hideous so mayby no more of that please, yes I know he's a kid and some kids can't act and some can, constructive criticism is important, that being said I loved this movie and will watch again and can't wait to see what else you create, thank you for this!!
