peter hopkins prieš 11 mėnesių When engaged in war, there is no 'nice' outcome. Today the Royal Air Forces ability to conduct bombing raids is radically different. In the First Gulf. We had to hit within 3 inches of target, we did more than 90% of the time, needing one aircraft and one bomb instead of the thousands the technology of 1945 needed. We still had anxious moments waiting for the aircraft to return. A story for another time, but the first RAF strike of the First Gulf achieved the first Air Combat loss of that war - no guns or missiles involved. The RAF continues to attract exceptional people doing seemingly impossible work with little and usually no thanks.

Peter Rye prieš 6 mėnesius In my early teens, visitors to the Lancaster displayed at Perth (Australia) airport were allowed inside. I clearly remember sitting in the radio operator's position, and realised that all that stood between me and a burst of 20 mm cannon shells would have been a couple of millimetres of aluminium sheeting. My admiration of the courage of the bomber command aircrew couldn't have come more quickly. The preservation of all these aircraft that remain is crucial to ensure future generations can learn the same lesson, the same way.

UilleannOslo prieš 11 mėnesių I once read about a young Norwegian man who returned to Norway from England where he had been a fighter pilot during the last world war. He was going to start his civilian life again as a teacher in a school. He was told when arriving at the school that he would get the most troublesome and toughest class that no teacher had managed to get under control, so far. He wondered what to do. The next day when he entered that class room he wore his pilot jacket. That whole class went silent when he came in, and he never had any problems with them.

Ron Greene Comedian prieš 5 mėnesius As an American born after the war, I grew up admiring the bombers and fighters produced in America. However, watching those big Lancasters fly with those huge wings and knowing how well it was built, it was truly a sight to see. Those brave young men deserve the admiration of freedom loving people from every generation.
